Main Objective:   • Train NGO officials, NGO group members, local government, elite, fishermen and farmers. • Develop effective relationship between government officials, NGOs and local people. • To advocate re-excavation of silted canal. To augment the natural resource base. • Raise awareness of fishermen not to fish the young, fingerling and brood fish. • Raise awareness of the pond owners of fishing using nets instead of pumping out water. • Improve access to and control of natural resources. Make communities aware of the importance of environment and natural resources conservation.
Brief Description: Data collection and public consultation were carried out over a period of three years using multiple methods and techniques with people's participation. Field visits were made by experts and field teams to review the identified environmental issues. The issues were analyzed and shared with the local community for their approval.
Output The project increased the level of awareness of people on natural resource management. It improved advocating capability of the local communities and it improved ecosystem of the wetland “Chanda Beel”. It augmented the natural resource base including aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna as well as improved access to and control of common property resources including khas land by the poor and women of the community. Finally, it reduced use of chemical fertilizer; instead people are using water hyacinth compost.
